In this fun interactive game, students help Birdie and Cuz-Cuz find the total number of fish they've won. Children will move the goldfish to Birdie and Cuz-Cuz's individual fish bowls, and then total them up. This resource provides a great visual representation of addition to help first graders grasp this math concept. Young mathematicians will get addition practice with this Adding Fish Game. Match ace Lee Kerry knows all about playing in big fish on the pole, which is why we’ve asked him to reveal his elastication secrets...
When pole fishing, it can be difficult to know how to play fish, which is why I’m going to reveal a few tips on how I manage a hooked fish when guiding them to the bank with a pole. Like everything in fishing, the more you adopt these techniques the more proficient you’ll become. Soon, you’ll be landing every single fish!
Go Lighter
With my particular style of fishing, you can pretty much guarantee that I’ll be fishing with a lighter elastic than a large percentage of anglers. My main line and hooklength won’t always be light, but I’m a great believer that the greater resistance the fish feel, the harder they pull back. This is why I always opt for a fairly light elastic.
“Playing fish on the pole isn’t just about how strong it is...”
My main elastic choice when I am expecting to be picking off fish would be Hollo Elastic 11h. I probably use this size more than any other in the whole range, especially when shallow fishing when you’re not sure what species of fish you’re likely to catch or the size of the fish you’re expecting to land next.
Avoid the Spook
The qualities this elastic provides, in my eyes, cannot be surpassed. It’s soft on the strike, so plenty of elastic can leave the pole with ease. In turn, the fish will move out of the swim at a much slower pace, eliminating the potential for other feeding fish to be spooked.
This elastic also dramatically cuts down the amount of tailwalking skimmers. By using a RollerPulla Kit or Pulla Bung you can pull the fish back towards you easily.
The distinct advantages of a Roller Pulla kit over a Bung is when you’re faced with a venue that’s deeper than the length of the kit. I’ve used these kits on venues that are 5 metres deep! The technique I use is to play the fish as normal then break the pole down at the top 5, bringing the sections low and to the left.
Pump it up
Slide the pole through your hand a little, reach out and take the elastic at the bush. When you pull the elastic out, move the pole towards the fish in a pumping motion. Repeat this a couple of times and the fish will soon be in front of you. At all times, keep the pole low to the water.

The only real exceptions to this style are if I have hooked something like a barbel, as they are notorious for keeping close to the bottom. You need to lift the pole over the fish to get it to come mid-water, at which point the fight will commence.
The Wild Side
When fishing for wilder carp like those in Europe, these fish are a lot leaner and have often never been hooked before. They tend to hit the horizon when hooked! I find that if you lift the pole with these fish it can stop them and turn the fish in a different direction. Frantic stuff!
The most important factor, which I think is essential when using the Pulla system, is to get familiar with your line and hooks. They will be under a considerable amount of pressure, so you need to understand the strengths of your setup and balance your tackle accordingly.
Preston Innovations has an unrivalled selection of hooklink materials and hook patterns, and I know I can trust these components. Just like the elastics, the poles and everything else in the range really - it’s built to help you, the angler, land more fish.
Reflo®Power™ has been a revelation in my fishing and probably thousands of other match anglers too. It’s so strong for its diameter and it never ceases to impress you. It’s unbelievable how much stick it will take and it’s why I can always play fish with such confidence on the pole.
Choose the best connectors

It’s the same situation with Preston’s range of connectors. There’s a huge range to suit different anglers tastes and different fishing situations, and the new Dacron Connectors have replaced the home made versions many of us were using prior to their release. There are Slip Connectors which offer a really secure fit and are really user-friendly, whilst the Hollo Connectors can easily be paired to match Dura Hollo Elastic.

At the end of the day, playing fish on the pole isn’t just about how strong your pole is and the technique you use, but about the tackle you use and want to have confidence in. I use Preston Innovations because it’s the best, and that’s why I would have no hesitation recommending it to anybody.
